Renewable Energy Resources

green living

Due to the increased rates of Global Warming and Carbon Emissions Co2 the world needs to find cleaner renewable forms of energy production.

On average, electricity production sources emit about 1.3 lbs CO2 per KWh of energy produced. This number varies greatly from area to area.

  • The world-wide average is 4 tons of carbon dioxide CO2 emitted per person per year.
  • The average of all industrialised nations is about 11 tons of carbon dioxide CO2 per person per year.
  • In America the average is about 25 tons of carbon dioxide CO2per person per year.

Solar Power

There are a number of ways that the power of the sun can be used to create clean renewable forms of energy.

Sunlight can be converted directly into electricity using photovoltaics (PV). This is the process that first comes to mind, for most of us, when we think about solar power. This is the technology used in making Solar Panels. This process directly converts sunlight into DC electricity.

Sunlight can be converted indirectly into electricity, also. This process is concentrating solar power (CSP). This focuses the sun's energy to boil water to create steam which is then used to generate electricity. This system uses lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam generating high degrees of heat for creating the steam.

The sun's energy can also be used for solar water heating. Solar water heaters can be a cost-effective way to generate hot water for your home. They can be used in any climate, and the fuel they use is free.

Wind Power

Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy, such as electricity, using wind turbines. Technologies are advancing at a very rapid rate in this area.
