Solar Power

Solar power has great potential, but at present it produces only about 0.02% of the world's total energy
supply. This is one of the worlds cleanest and purest forms of energy. And we as a society need to explore this
form of energy to it's fullest extent.

Photovoltaics (PV)
There are three main types of solar photovoltaics (PV) electric systems:
Off-Grid
Off-grid systems are used for RV's, hunting cabins, homes in remote
locations or by anyone that does not want to be tied to the national power grid. Off-grid systems typically have a battery storage system to store power. They also
typically rely on a back up power source like a generator for when the sun does not come out for extended
periods of time.
Grid-Tied
Grid tied systems are tied to the national power grid. This
type of system generates power during the day and feeds any excess power produced back to the grid. Then
at night they draw power back from the grid to support electrical needs.
Grid-Tied with Battery Backup
Grid tied systems with a battery
back up are just what it sounds like. This type system generates power during the day and
feeds any excess power produced back to the grid. The biggest difference here is that this system has a
battery storage system to supply electrical power needs at night. This type system takes the fullest
advantage of net metering. This allows the homeowner to be paid for any excess power
they produce.
